Facebook employee dies after jumping from Menlo Park building
It goes without saying or warning that we have a very serious issue with mental health in america that we need to start taking more seriously instead of brushing it off to the side like it doesn’t exist.
An employee at Facebook jumped from the fourth floor of a Menlo Park building on Thursday to his death, according to officials.
The Menlo Park Police Department received a call at about 11:30 a.m. that a man had jumped from a building in the 100 block of Jefferson Drive. By the time police officers and officials from Menlo Park Fire Protection District arrived, the man was unresponsive, according to a police department press release.
The apparent suicide took place at 162 Jefferson Drive, a Facebook building known as MPK 27.
A spokesperson for Facebook said in an emailed statement Thursday afternoon that the company “saddened to learn that one of our employees passed away at our Menlo Park headquarters earlier today.”
“We’re cooperating with police in their investigation and providing support to employees,” the spokeswoman wrote.
Firefighters and paramedics tried to revive the man, but he died at the scene. Police have no reason to believe there was any foul play involved, the press release stated.
The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office responded and transported the man to the San Mateo County Hospital. The identity of the man has not yet been released.
